President Vladimir Voronin has met the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mariann Fischer Boel, within his official visit to Brussels. The Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Anatolie Gorodenco, has also participated at the meeting.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Anatolie Gorodenco, has asked the European Commission (EC) for financial and technical support in implementing the National Strategy for Agro-industrial Complex Sustainable Development until 2020.
During the Thursday meeting in Brussels with the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mariann Fischer Boel, the Moldovan minister has noted Moldovan specialists' interest in the assistance from the EC Consumer Protection Directorate General with a view to harmonize the zootechnical sector of Moldova to the Community food safety standards for animal products.

The European official has launched proposals regarding the intensification of the EC cooperation with Moldova in agricultural and food sector, stressing the opportunity to undertake specific actions at the level of experts.

At the same time, Mariann Fischer Boel has expressed the readiness of the relevant EC subdivision to provide the support necessary to comply with EU food safety standards.

The parts have also focused on the opportunities to establish small processing companies in the Moldovan rural sector, noting the importance of the EC support.
